After you have done all carb checks, not flooding, getting gas, vapor lock ect. Check and see if you are getting spark to the plugs, when a coil gets hot(bad) it will do this, and after it cools down will give a good spark again.

 

What is the eaiest way to check for spark?

 

Pull the plug wire off and stick your thumb over the end and and crank the bike, if you jump it has spark. Seriously pull the wire put an old plug in and crank it over and see if the spark will arc to ground. I doubt this is the problem since it will restart in a matter of minutes which is not long enough for the coil to cool off.

my girlfriends 02 lowrider is doing the same thing. Does it about 30% of the time when it is hot. She has replaced fuel cap, new petcock, butterfly valve, and it just did it again last nite after sitting for about 3 hours. She rode 8 miles in town to my house--shut off to open the garage door--and it would not start. Just crank. Waited 5 mins and it fired up again. Sure seems like vapor lock. I looked at her battery and it is at least 4 years old so I put a new one in. It does seems to fire up lots faster and load test on the old one was showing some weakness. Perhaps just not getting enough fire? She is going on a 1,000 mile trip next week so we will see.

 

Success!!! She has been riding the bike now for over a month with the new battery and no problems....Even the H-D tech though it was fuel related
