New Lid on 2006 EG Standard Saddlebag
I'm going nuts! I put a new lid on my EG Standard hard saddlebagyesterday and cannot getthe lidto close properly. Everything seems towork as it should, but, when closing there isa feeling of something in the wayand the latch will not stay shut. The only way I can keep it closed is by locking the lid.
I have compared all aspects of the other lid and saddlebag and everything looks exactly the same.
The only thing I can think of thatmay becausing theinterferenceis the heavy rubber seal around the lid that keeps the saddlebag waterproof when closed.
I have thought of cutting some of the seal away to see if that improvesthings, but, do not want to screw things up unless I am absolutely sure that is the problem.
I havethe feeling I may be missing something very simple.
Please, what am I doing wrong?
Thanks,
Tlee

RE: New Lid on 2006 EG Standard Saddlebag
I had to put a new lid on one of mine also. Yes, you will feel some resistance when closing the latch after installing the new lid. Just make sure that alignment is right before forcing it, and the lid seal (gasket) is closing on the saddlebag itself.
It does feel weird at first, but you can tell that you are just compressing the seal as you close the latch.
I just closed mine and locked it and didn't open it for over a month. The gasket compressed, took a setand now the new one closes and latches exactly like the original one the other side of the bike. Just keep it closed and forget about it for at least amonth, and it should be ok.
Those things are EXPENSIVE!!!
Don't ask me how I know!!!
Good luck.

Dude, I feel your pain. I got caught trying to outrun a nasty summer storm here today in PA. I just just barelymade it too.I hopped on the interstate and hauled *** home at 85-95 mph. I hit a few expansionlumps in the road that sort ofshook the bike a bit,and whenI got homeI saw thatmy left saddlebag had apparently popped open. After trying to reclose it I noticed it felt... well not quite right. Not latching correctly with enough resistance like the other side. I just locked it for now. I haven't had a chance to see whats going on with it yet.
