What kind of phone do you have? When I mounted it directly to my iPhone (metal backing) it pulled off the second time (and I gave it 48 hour cure time). Once adhered to my plastic case, I haven't had any issues at all.

Ram mount for a couple reasons
I have a GoPro housing mounted on the right side hand control assy. and if I want I can twist that off in about 2 seconds and put the phone there with the X mount
The RAM stuff is very flexible and can be used for the bike, boat, around the house, car, whatever with tons of extensions, camera adapters and accessories, etc. What works best on a touring bike might not be the best for a Sportster
If I want to use the phone (for GPS mainly...I don't take calls or texts with it on the bike) and GoPro, then I put another tiger grip or whatever they call it on the handlebar and can put the phone wherever I want and pull power out of the windshield bag for both
here's the pic of the RAM phone mount
