Default New Throttle cables a tad stiff

Just replaced my throttle cables on my 2003 road king classic. I bought factory cables, routed them exactly where they were and did not touch the cruise in any way. I have a service manual and adjusted the PULL cable as per instructions until the throttle was at WOT. The idle cable was at full slack. According to the Manual. The throttle will return on its own but doesn't snap back like it did. The cruise now doesn't work either. It states that there is no need to touch the cruise and I didn't. What is going on? I don't have any mounting clamps too tight either, I checked all that and took my time putting these on. I even cleaned the spring on the butterfly with carb cleaner and lubed it up as well. The idle cable to me on anything more than a 1/4inch from full slack tends to stiffen up the cable so I have it at full slack. It is also the cable that has the cruise electrical connectors on it.

Any ideas would be a help.

Make sure the grip isn't too tight against the end of the bar. Same thing happened to me when I changed grips.

Agreed on the grip. Other than a problem with routing...which you say there is not...I would lube with TriFlow or your choice of quality lube. Some cables require no lube, but I lube 'em anyway.

Lubricate inside of cables make sure you have a little bit of end play on the grip. Even lightly lubricate the inside of the throttle grip sleeve.

My thoughts exactly. The inside of the grip is rubbing against the end of the bar and/or the switch housing.

Loosen all he screws at the switch housing and I bet it will loosen right up. Slide it off the handle bar slightly and screw it all back down again. It needs just a little slop.

That or since your bike still has throttle cables, it's over ten years old. It's time for an upgrade

I changed a pair of grips and as reported by others the grip was installed too tight against clamp.
