Scotch brite pads and SOS pads will get them clean but think about what you're doing to the tire. each swipe puts a tiny microscopic scratch in the rubber which will then collect dirt faster and cause your tire to get dirty sooner.
I used magic erasers for a couple years...then a 2 year stint with no cleaning of the white walls. Then I used Goof Off and they have never been cleaner.
Goof Off looks like a nice toxic cleaner to use. I've been using this on my Softail Deluxe with great results. They also have the wipes to take on long trips is need be. They're from the Coker Tire folks and make white walls for many of the vintage cars.
Im pretty sure Goof Off eats rubber but Im sure someone will be along to correct me if im wrong.
From their site:
Is it safe to use Goof Off® Super Glue Remover on rubber?
It can dissolve some rubber materials. Test the product in a small, inconspicuous spot first to ensure no damage occurs.
