Default Oil Temp Gauge Installed...

Replaced the useless ambient temperature gauge with the oil temp gauge on my Ultra. First ride after leaving the dealer directly on the highway had temps rise to 220-230. I then got stuck in traffic on the George Washington Bridge, not really bumper to bumper, more like 5-10 mph. Outside temps were in the low 80's. Oil temp rose to 260! and pretty much remained there, going slightly over when I got completely stopped for several minutes. Once I started moving temps went to just shy of the 260 mark and stayed there.

The following day I drove back to the dealer and then back home, sixty miles, all highway ridingand the oiltemp never went above 230.Outside air temps were low to mid 80's. So, what have I learned? Well, with 2 rides not enough, but it does seem thatriching up the mixture at the low end should cool the bike temps down, as stated here in the forum. Bike runs good at speed with air flowing over the jugs, but the lean condition at idle is gonna kill the life expectancy of our engines.

All in all, a worthwhile purchase IMHO.

i think what was learned was, you are worrying much more then needed now that you have an oil gage to watch while your riding. Enjoy the ride - worry less

Smitty, I actually am worrying less, thanks to the gauge. Prior to its installation I had no clue as to ...how Hot it was running. It seemed to be running much hotter than it is showing now. In fact the dealer told me it would prolly run around the 260 mark and it has.

I will put a couple hundred more miles on her, then decide if I need to upgrade the fuel management system or not.

Adding a fuel manager will lower the temp. My oil temp didn't go past230riding in 95 deg weather withmoderate traffic.

Get a Barefoot ******* beverage holder and install it in front of the useless air gauge and you won't have to worry about either gauge ....costs less than an oil gauge too [8D]

I asked my dealer what he thought about a fuel mananger and he told me I don't need it....heat is not a problem with the 07s.
