I have cop motorcycle friends. I see them in town and parades and these cops never shut the bikes off. They let them run. Mileage of these bikes has nothing to do with wear and tear. I love cop bikes and would love to own a cop road king but I will never know long they ran. I won't buy one that was taken out of service.

Hi from the UK and welcome to HDF. Wadjawanna know about 'em? We don't have a dedicated 'Police' area, but there are plenty of owners of them in HDF. If you ask a specific question you should get prompt answers.

I was looking at a 2013 Electra Glide police bike about 2 years ago. Dealer had it tagged with a "make me buy it" price.....really low. It only had a little over 10,000 miles on it, but salesman (who was a guy I had bought several bikes from in the past, so we had a good relationship) said it was sold "AS IS" with ZERO warranty. I asked why, and he told me that no one will warranty an ex-police bike for ANY AMOUNT of time because they are known to have been abused from prolonged idling, which leads to overheating, and a lot of them have wiring issues from having all the police equipment removed when they turn them over, etc. He said they wouldn't even work on it if someone bought the bike and then brought it back for a problem. Too many "unknowns". Thus the "AS IS" clause, according to him. I walked away from that. Just my personal experience when I inquired about buying one. Are there people who have bought them and been happy with their bikes? I'm sure there are........ but "you pay your money, and you take your chances". Dealers aren't gonna want to work on them. At least around here.

Hey folks, if I'm cutting in & should post this elsewhere please advise, but I also have a question(s) regarding police bikes...
Awhile back I purchased a 1996 FLHRPI, but the saddle on it is for a standard touring model. I've slowly been getting together the parts for the police air ride saddle and I can tell you this has been a bit more of a challenge than I anticipated. I'm pretty well committed at this point, so I guess it's a little late to ask whether this is a hair brained scheme on my part.
Anyway, so far I have the police saddle (with the bracket attached underneath). And within a few days I'll also have: a license bracket with tank & gauge, a suspension bladder, air line & police service manual supplement (I already have the standard manual). What else am I going to need? And what "surprises" should I be prepared for? I appreciate the help.

I got my 04 RKP with 10,000 miles on it. Today it has 87,000 with no issues, except wear and tear items.
