If it was me I'd sell the car and pocket the cash towards something 2010+. Harley rolled out a complete new engine design in 2007 that addressed a lot of the problems inherent with rides pre-2006. The diff in cost between this bike and something newer might surprise you.

If you're new to HD and are set on getting this bike it would be a good idea to get someone with experience to look it over. You want to know who maintained it, what mods (what mods!!!!!), and how did them.

Harley's are all beautiful, some however can be malicious bitches!

Agree with Jack. Not sure about the rest of the country but here in FL, bagger prices are WAY WAY DOWN. I'm looking at a 2016 Street Glide Special with 575 miles on it from a private sale for $15,500 and also a 2014 Street Glide Special with 1,000 miles on it for $13K.

Understood. I am wanting to do more or less a lateral trade - whether I do this deal or sell the car, not going into debt. Thanks for input!

Since you're not wanting to take on debt, may be a good move. I'm with you, I don't take out loans on Harleys, my boats or vehicles. Only my house, if I can't afford to pay cash I am not buying it.

You have a car you are ready to part with. It is not going to bring what you want. He has bike that likely will not bring what he would like. It seems money wise you too are pretty much even. Bike looks good in pictures. Do you want the bike is the only real question left.

I would suggest taking it and having the bike looked over mechanically or do it yourself if you have the skill set.

All are great replies! I've all but decided that I want it. We are going to meet sometime next week for coffee and discussion on 'the deal'... May not be until Thursday as that's when my Harley ridin' brother and one of his Harley ridin' buds can come down and lay their eyes and brain-trust on it! I'll let you guys know what happens. (Still too cold to start riding anyways!) Oh yeah, then there's all the gear I've got to load up on....YIKES!
