Default Saddlebag lid protection help.

I'm looking at adding some protection to my saddle bag lids to prevent scuffing. All options are being considered but I have some concerns about each option. If I go with the leather or vinyl bra type covers I worry about the paint fading or getting damaged fro either the sun or moisture trapped under the covers. I was also looking at the chrome lid rails but I' like the clean look of the bags and not sure I want to drill into the covers for something that permanent. I think my best option is a clear protective film but i want something that I won't be able to tell it's there that also won't delam.

Thoughts and suggestions are welcome and appreciated.

...... i've used the HD vinyl lid covers on both of my machines for over 10 yrs now w/ no issues
...... well, no issues outside of a little shrinkage & the velcro attachment strips coming loose in summer heat when stretched tightly
...... absolutely no issue with damage to the paint under the covers

I like the harley covers but I would always pull and let dry after rain.

I would think that a protective film be best. I know there is motorcycle specific cutouts, but I forgot the names. Maybe, check with an automotive film installer. They might know or even can get the kits.

I put "Motorcycle Armor" on my lids after my wife put her camera case between her and the lid. It worked as described and you can not see the haze that was apparent after this unfortunate incident. Warranty for life. Cheaper than getting those CVO lids repainted.

I was torn between the lid bra and the protective film but after looking at the Motorcycle Armor website and watching the install video I think this is really what I want to go with now. It will maintain the original look of the bags which I really like and offer the protection I'm looking for.

J F GO how long have you been using it and how is it holding up?

That will depend on your ability to keep you feet (foot) from sliding across the top of your lid. The left lid on my bike is fine but with my short legs it's got a few scuff marks, on the right one, and I'm going to replace them this spring. I think its been 4 years this summer, but again, it's really up to you, or your spouse. Personally I like seeing my painted lids.

I would never put leather or vinyl cover\bra on my bike. heard to many horror story about them rubbing the paint off, or the cover flying off - just sayin
