Blacked out or chromed out?
#51
To me, I prefer a chromed out bike, but it is a pain in the *** to keep cleaned and polished. I like the blacked out look on a white bike or another light color . Someone posted a yellow bike that was blacked out and it looked good. I really like me the red flake on the SGS, but imho, the blacked out look doesn’t look good with that color. If the Road Glide Ultra would have came in the red flake paint, I would have bought that bike instead of the blue one I did buy.

I prefer a combo of the two. Used to be, if you saw a blacked out bike, you knew the spent a lot of time and effort to do all that work to make it special. Now you can buy it like that. Seems like another trend that Harley jumped on and devalued the work of the guys doing it. But, to each his own.

For decades been a fan of the late Doane Spencer and his cars. Black, chrome and red was his trademark color scheme. His work is legendary from the early days of hotrodding. Gotta highlight the black paint with tasty bits of chrome. For fifty-six years every motorcycle I've owned has been some combination of black, red and chrome.

Second build of his 1955 Thunderbird (done in 1988)

Blacked Out...pretty much.
This is my '07 Ultra, I picked it up cheap, ran fine but looked like it lived outdoors mostly. All powder coating done be me in my garage(minus wheels, bars and frame). Just installed some Andrews 48 cams, rocker lockers & manual chain adjuster. Its getting a new vivid black paint job(the original color, also tackling it myself), adding extended bags and bad dad fender. If you haven't noticed I also did a swingarm upgrade to later '09-Up so I can run 180 tire out back. Exhaust and heat shields are blacked out as well. It may not look like it, but I plan on riding this in 30 days :-O
