i wonder if water has been added while adding air to the tire. can add up to alot of condensation in the air tank if not drained regular. think about how many times we add air to our tires over the life of the tire. only takes alittle water every time to thin it out.

Heat/moisture/condensation help it to look that way. I’ve unmounted many a bike tire with ride on and they look this way.
About 4 years ago I had a rear tire get a 1-1/2” slash in it on the interstate. It had rideon in the tire. With a slash that size I didn’t expect it to keep the tire aired up, and it didn’t. But what it DID do was allow me to air the tire up long enough to roll it onto a trailer where it “slowly’ leaked back out.
Obviously this was an extreme case and the tire did go flat on the road but if it wasn’t for the rideon in the tire we would have played hell trying to get that loaded down bike on a trailer/up a slight grade/on gravel/up a trailer ramp.
I will continue to run it in all my bikes.

i have seen a few tires with ride-on or similar that did look like their advertising pictures. I suspect that in those cases the tires were cleaned, the valve stem down when added, dry air used, and then driven at highway speeds for a while. But that's just speculation on my part.
