So you're saying i can buy #17 (67959-10) and take apart my '05 assembly, and rebuild into that. I am mainly interested, as I think #31 would fit better this way

 

This is super helpful! I learned alot with the photo attached from Skratch.... Personal experience learned here, as well as the in depth explanation is not something i can't get from the DEALERSHIP... They just look down at me like i dont know what i am doing and try to sell me what is in their Harley Parts book. Which is all fine but not what i am looking for.... which is why i came to the forum... Thank you to all of those that provided helpful information.

 

That is what I did - bought #17 from the left diagram to replace #22 in the right diagram so I could put the newer bezel on my bike instead of the bubble.

The bonus to this is the headlight assemblies then bolt to the backer from the front side, allowing bulb replacement without fairing removal. I did have to 'massage' the new plate a bit though because it needed a bit of clearance for the old lights to sit flush.

 

yep. now, realize that if you do this, you may want to change the light housings as well because the older style aren't made to be 'out in the elements' where the '10 and newer are. that doesn't mean that folks who have done this haven't stuck with their stock lights and not had any issues. just be aware that an errant rock may leave you with a bad day. which, to be fair, i've seen happen with daymakers too.....

 

I would also recommend, if you take off the bubble, check out Cee Bailey's headlight guard. It's around 50 bucks, it attaches to your headlight with 3 spots of Velcro and protects your lenses from damage

 

Never gave it much thought. I've been running the '05 w/o bubble for years. Great! Now that you all pointed this out, guess what will happen!!!
