I have a 2002 Ultra Classic. I'm having trouble with the charging system. I shut it off at a gas station an it would turn the bike over enough to crank. jumped it off drove it home about 10miles all the lights etc worked fine. got home shut it off an it was dead. Battery is about 3months old. I have tested stator its at 18-20V at idle and like 48V at 2500 rpms. I charged the battery 13.05 volts, once I crank the bike it goes to 12.88 and increases as I throttle up.


I rode it about 30miles did fine, on the way back about have way I notice the Volt gauge was dropping slowly from around 12-10 bike never shut down. Once I got home I shut it off an started back up.

 

Any codes? Possible your Voltage regulator is on its way out.

Whoa there! We have Stickies in the Tech Electrical section, which take you through the process of checking your charging system. Follow them before spending anything! Just because your battery is recent doesn't make it good today, so don't assume it is OK, follow the instructions.
