Default Cold Start (Choke or Enricher)

When starting your HD in the morning, how long do you keep the enricher wide-open? how long do you keep it at half-open? Let me know how your choking process work.

I have a 2002 Electra Glide Classic (just recently purchased).

I start it full choke. Suit up to ride. Push it all the way in and ride. Occasionally, I will ride with it half open, when it is real cold out, but not for long. No issues yet.

When the bike was stock , full rich for about 5 seconds and half for about 2 minutes.
After re-jet , full rich for 1 second and almost off for 2 minutes.
I usually go to full off , then set the throttle lock for 1100 rpm's and let it warm if I have time.
If you increase the pilot jet from 45 to 46 or 48 , the warmup and low speed response will improve a bunch and
the idle will be more stable and smoother even while idling hot.
You will be able to use less enricher while cold and ride sooner with better response.
Run the enricher the least amount possible is the rule of thumb.
Just the way I do it....

The owners manual tells you you can ride the bike with it part open, but I never did that . . . I let it start andget it so it will run closed with the throttle locked at 1200 RPM (usually 3-5 seconds). Let it sit like that whileI got my gear on (figure 30 seconds to 1 minute, at most). Then release the throttle lock and go.

I do the same thing with my Super E carb, except, I literally just have it on full open to start the bike, as soon as it gets going, I shut it off and put the throttle lock to 1200 RPM for 30-60 seconds.
