Default Dunlop 407/408 verses Dunlop American Elites

I own a 2009 HD CVO FLTRSE3 that has stock Dunlop 407/408 on it. I see the American Elites are new and highly recomended by some. Concerned about Radial verses Bias regarding wear, comfort and control. Does anyone have experience with new Elites on their HD?

in looking at the owners manual for your bike, it shows that the stock dunlop tires are bias. the american elite replacement tires are bias. so i'm not sure what you're asking in ref to radial tires.

i can tell you that when i replaced my stock tires on my bike with the american elites, i had 20,000 miles on them. i could have gone more, but we were planning a trip and i wanted to have fresh rubber. plus my stockers were cupping enough to feel/hear in the corners. i have 37,000 miles on my bike now, and i think i could probably go another 5-8,000 easy. no real sign of cupping on these yet.

i'm pretty religious about checking my tire pressure, and keep these at 40/40, same as the stock ones.

in addition to getting long life out of the elites, i get a good ride as well. i've never had any problem with them, whatever the conditions were. when i replace these, i will go with another set. you can get a full set for about the same cost as the rear stock. and another bonus, the tread pattern looks better than the stock one too.

I have the same size tires as you , actually on the same blade wheels, the AEs are much better the 407-408s. Both front & rear tires are less prone to cupping & the 180 rear is good for 2-3000 more miles than the 407. I highly recommend them, they are less expensive & yes they are both bias ply tires.

I don't think there's anything new about them. I'm on my sixth rear and fifth front. I think they work really well.

I got about 18K out of the stock tires. I could have gotten another 2K but was going on a trip and didn't want to push it. I went with the AE's nice tire so far hard to compare to the old tires time will tell.

On my second set here. They now offer them in wide white walls. Great tires. Also, they are dual compound tires, soft rubber on the sides for cornering and harder rubber in the middle for longer life. You cant go wrong man.

I've been using AE's on my 2009 Ultra since they became available. I now have 85,000 miles on it and AE's have been awesome. I get in the 22-25k range from a front and about 13-15k for the rear. I like them a lot better than the D407-408F - theoretically they should be the same as they're both dual compound Dunlops but I've found the AE's to a much better tire all the way around
