Default Decisions, Decisions. 15 CVO vs 17Limited

I'm looking at possibly trading up from my 03 Ultra. As the title says, I'm looking at a 15 CVO Limited with about 40k kms (25k miles) or a 17 Limited ex rental with about 20k kms (12k miles).

I'm torn between the paint and options on the CVO vs the new M8 engine. The CVO has Dresser Duals, the 17 is bone stock. On one hand I get a factory custom bike that I probably won't do anything to, on the other, I get the supposedly awesome M8 and newer suspension.

I don't usually buy first year anything so that's a consideration as well and a strike against the 17.

I can't ride either because it's winter up here but the deals now are great and I'd have to pay literally thousands more in the spring for either bike. The only Harley's I've ridden have been 88, 96 or 103 bikes. No 103ho, 110 or M8 bikes so I can't really compare the engines.

Any input, especially from those of you who have owner or ridden both, is greatly appreciated.

Cool

The upgrade from your current bike will effectively be a couple of steps or more - dizzying stuff! I've never been shy of owning an early vehicle, so that would be my choice. But then I'm lucky in not having your predicament!

Depends on the price. With 25k on the CVO, I'd be wanting to have a extended warranty or at least changing out the lifters. Just for piece of mind. The 110 will run hotter than the 107. The 107 runs pretty good and will run about as good once the same work is done to it. Either will be a big step up in technology from your current ride. I'm not to keen on rental bikes. If you choose that ask for a extended warranty.

The only 110 CVO I have ridden was a Breakout so hard to give a comparison. I will say the 107 M8 is a great torque monster and happily cruises at any speed that I have found. While I am very happy with the M8 I find myself in your position being hard pressed not to go with a add next to nothing CVO. Dang hard to pass up all the extras but would probably have to go with the M8. Let your pockets be your guide.

The prices are within 1k of each other, CVO is higher, but essentially even.
I'd probably put slip ons (MK45?) on the 17 and possibly a hammock, so that raises the price to a bit more than the CVO. The dresser duals aren't my first choice but they'll have to stay.

Either one will get an extended warranty. I'm a mechanic and not big on extended warranties but I'm going to be making payments so I don't want any big surprises.

CVO is gold/black. Haven't seen it in person yet so I'll have to see if I love it.

17 is Superior Blue and silver. I've seen an identical bike and we both like it.

That is one very tough question. There are good points with both. Not really any bad points, just a matter of personal choice.

I would consider resale valve in say three to four years. My guess is the M8 will do better.

The 15 CVO was one of my favorite. But now that I have ridden the M8 and own a 114 it would be very hard for me to consider a 110.

Ride them both and buy what makes you the happiest!

Do you want the older one that has been ridden by one dude or the younger one that has been ridden by 2-300 dudes?
I’d prolly go with the younger one as all the different types of riding makes a more seasoned ride than the older one that was ridden the same way over and over again.
Then again the older one has a lot of enhancements that really make a difference.

Tough choice.

The 17 will probably depreciate faster than the 15. They depreciate the fastest in the first 1 to 3 years. The 15 CVO was probably $10K to $12K more new and you said now they are within $1k of each other.

Isnt the only difference between a rushmore 103 and the m8 bikes the motor? I thought the suspension was the same
