Default Transmission problems

When I put the transmission in any gear it sounds like the gears are sliding over the top of each other. The bike doesn't move. What should I look for? Getting ready to open it up.

Are you getting enough "throw" on the shift lever when you depress it?

maybe the splines are going.

Maybe tell us a bit more? Bike model and year? Milage? History of the problem? Have you tried anything to fix it yet? Will it go into gear when not running? What's the clutch lever feel like, any change from before the problem? If you try to shift without the clutch does it feel/sound any different?
Like most have posted I think you're probably looking at a clutch issue as opposed to the transmission but more info might help.

Did you check to see if you still have a drive belt?

Thanks for the feedback. The belt is good. I'll check the clutch adjustment but it was working fine and then when shifting into gear from a stop light, no go with gears making noise. It's a 2003 Ultra Glide with 27,000 miles on it.

front pulley may be stripped out. pull derby cover and then drop it in gear and see if the clutch basket is spinning when you let the clutch out. if so, your front pulley is stripped.

14 years and only 27k miles! Sounds like the problem is you do not ride enough.

Wish I could help. Hopefully it is something simple and inexpensive.

Ride safe & Merry Christmas

Check the compensator... The bolt or nut, not sure which the 2003 had, may have come loose.
