Several battery threads have started because people are having to replace batteries every 2 years and they blame the batteries. My experience with a stock 96 is that anything less than a fresh battery will allow hard starts when hot, stopping momentarily, or almost stopping on the first compression stroke. My son's 103 with factory ACRs cranks easily under all conditions for at least 4 years per battery, same battery as mine. If I ever need head work, I would add ACRs just to save on such frequent battery replacement.

No ACR's on mine ( 2009 FLHTCU ) and I replaced the original battery last spring for "peace of mind" ... I never encountered a hard start/no start situation either.

Heat is the suspected culprit in early battery weakening, if not failure. It happens more frequently in the south than in the north. I suspect Southeastern MI is not as hard on batteries as Oklahoma, Texas, Arizona, NM etc. Obviously, one size does not fit all.

I got manuals installed while I had my heads done. .030 Cometic head gaskets. 9.75 CR after slight head milling. Hardly ever use them, maybe when it's really hot. It's a nice option to have.

I just found a set of low mileage take off from a 2015 street glide that are cheaperthan what it will cost me to have mine fresher up and ACR machined in them
