2007 Road King Custom
I'm looking at trading in the Night Train for a 2007 Road King Custom in Black Pearl. Is there anything I should know about the bike before I make a decision. THe only things I heard about are heat and transmission noise. What type of noise is this and should I worry about the heat. I never had atouring type bike and I am trying to find something more comfotable for the woman to sit on and for myslef as well on rides a few hours in length.
Thanks for the help. If there is any link I should look at please attach them.

Just Buy It - Nothing to worry about...
But you'll need to change the seat for "The Woman" as the OEM seat is a bit narrow (Highly recommend the Sundowner) & don't forget to get her a backrest ... Outside of that... Just Ride The Livin' Snot Out of it & Enjoy!!!

I have a '05 rk custom, in black pearl. I love my bike more everyday. The seats are the same, and you will need to address that. But first on the list should be the passanger backrest. Silly me, waited for her to ride on the back, and she was very unhappy...until I got the backrest. Better now, but the seat still needs work. I waited over the winter without doing anything. Stupid me, my first Harley. I didn't know it was law to add mods to your bike during the winter. Now, being as I only have one seat, I have to wait until winter to have BadX do a seat mod for me. Can't/wont have the down time during the riding season. So until winter, she will remain unhappy with the seat. Get the bike. Last year of the rk custom, and only produced for four years. It is nice to be a little different.

My list of mods off the bat were to get a backrest and additional lighting (anyone use the engine guard lights?). I was thinking about getting the lock set for the bags and mabe the 12v outlet so I could put my GPS on. I saw a thread about the engine guard light but it was more about mounting issues.

I have the saddlebag locks. Easy install, and I use them daily. If a thief wants them, they're gone, but gives me piece of mind. I went with a light bar, but if I had it to do over, I would have went with http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/CUSTO...30882114QQrdZ1 Just a thought

RE: 2007 Road King Custom
I have a 2007 FLHRS with almost 5,000 miles on it and I have zero complaints.
Yes, there is a "whine" in the helical 5th gear. But as someone once posted here in this forum, it just reminds me of what gear I'm in.
The extreme engine heat rejection issue can be solved. Although I would never consider it, HD has come out with an ECM programming procedure that shuts off fuel to the rear cylinder during extended idle times. And HD recently introduced some heat shields that block the rear cylinder heat from your thighs. I think the SERT is the best solution to this complaint.
If your Lady is going to ride behind you for any length of time, a Sundowner seat will be a must. I sold my original seat on eBay for a little over a hundred bucks and shipped it in the Sundowner box. The Sundowner seat will be money well spent.
Since I bought my Road King Custom the only complaint I’ve had is against Mother Nature.
When the 6 is lit, all's right with the world !

Actually, unless I'm mistaken, 1st and 5thare straight cut gears, it's the rest that are helical. Mine doesn't "whine", more of a faint rattle I guess. I can definately hear it but it's nothing that I'm going to let bother me. The heat issues are real, if you ask me they need to be addressed, although some are riding stock bikes and loving them. I addressed it with true duals, A/C and Thundermax. Runs considerably cooler (I don't have a gauge yet but my thighs can tell) and stronger. Love it.

I love my 2007 RK Custom! Not the best choice for two up riding since the seat is really a solo seat. It dosen't come with cruise control either. The RK Classic might be a better choice since it has a two-up seat and the cruise controll.
If you must have the custom, add a two up seat and the cruise for touring.
As for the noises, barely a whine in fith (1000 miles). The heat was handled bya K&N air intake, Supper Trapp slip ons and race tuner by the dealer before pick up. Now it puts out as much heat as my old 95 FXD.
