agree 100%. they are a great product, unless you want to support HD/Kury and buy the cheap plastic/lexon thing they sell that many have reported as a POS to install, melting, breaking, etc. RJs work great and look even better. fortunately i made the decision to go with RJs the first time, rather than wasting $60+ for the HD/Kurys and then having to spend more money to do it right with the RJs. Well worth the $. And RJ actually gives a S*** and deals personally with each customer. Guess that is how American business used to be before we had the large, anonymous corporations.
I guess it's a matter of what you like. I bought the "cheap-plastic" Kurys for several reasons, mainly because they cost 1/2 that of the RJ's, and I personally like the appearance of the reflective smoke version on this bike. At some angles they look like chrome, yet others smoked plastic like my windshield and wind deflectors. Based on what I've seen so far I would disagree with you that the plastic is cheap and thus faulty. Mine haven't melted or broken, and even though the install was a bit problematic they are on the bike and working well, even in this S. LA summer heat. The Airmax Saddle Shields, also marketed under the Kuryakyn name, are polycarbonate, not Lexan, which has high-impact and temperature resistance--and since it is also used for eyeglasses I don't think it is prone to breakage. As for effectiveness, I can report the same results as you, and it shouldn't matter if the material separating you from the heat is plastic, vinyl, or leather. Any of the above should be effective, and it boils down to cosmetic appeal. I see no mention on the RJS site about materials used in their heat shields, so I assume they are vinyl, which is also plastic. IMO that is not a vice, as plastic is not necessarily a four-letter word and can be effective almost anywhere if chemically engineered properly.

So, the RJ's sound like a good product for double the price of another good product, both doing the job they were intended to do, which is essentially the same thing. If you like the styling of one over the other, that's individual preference.

RJs are made from aluminum with a leather type material on the outside. there is NO plastic or similar material in them.

Mike - They should take your post and make ad copy from it. Nicely done!

Between all these comments and after getting caught in construction on I-94 last night and having my right inner thigh screaming for relief. I will have to take a look at these.

I like many others who purchased a 2007 Ultra Classic, soon realize there was a standard item that came with the bike that buyers were surprised to find. It was a toaster. In fact, if you got bogged down in a traffic jam, had to crawl through an intersection, or just surrounded by slow cages on a hot day, you soon had a odd feeling your gahoonas were toasting. That’s because they were!

Remedy[/b]. After reading many reviews and checking out RJs website, I decided to order a set of heat deflectors from rjsoriginals.com. I mean how could I lose; they advertised that there would be no more heat torture sessions to endure, they guaranteed excellent customer service, they stated the deflectors would enhance the appearance of the bike, and they guaranteed fast delivery. Most of all, they were made in America. This was too much to be true, so I placed an order. Five minutes after sending the order in my cell phone started ringing. I answered it and it was RJ, explaining he got my order but it would take a couple of extra days cause he was moving his shop. I thanked him for the call and he said he’d get them out first thing. He did.

The heat deflectors arrived shortly thereafter; I put them on Wednesday, and rode the bike to work last night (80 miles round trip). On the return leg, I got caught in one of those infamous Interstate 95 shutdowns --- the bugs on the asphalt were crawling faster than me. This duck shuffle went on for fifteen minutes before I could finally get my feet back up on the floorboards. However, I noticed the missing aroma smell of burning Hanes underwear --- these damn heat deflectors are really[/i] working! Everything I read about them and what RJ advertises is not only true, it is the gospel[/i]. One thing I would add, is that they are simple to install, no more than ten minutes even for a mutant like me.

If you are suffering: I mean dreading every time you have to slow down or stop cause your gahoonas are going to take a trip down Roasted Marshmallows Lane, do yourself a favor you will never regret. Log onto rjsoriginals.com and enjoy riding your bike!

Regarding RJ's...do they interfere with removal of the side panels? It almost looks like they lay over them.

Good question about the side panels....This seems like a good productbut itseems a bit pricey to me. I suppose if they work, but why does everything for these dang motercycles cost so much.

"Leather-like" sounds like vinyl or some other plastic to me. If it is neither, what is it? The aluminum skeleton sounds like a good idea, BTW.

Regarding your question. There's very few parts, if not any. That you have to remove or loosen to remove on a Harley to get to anything. My product does set snug against and over the leading upper edge of the side covers, or your naming, the side panels. And removing the side panels is not an everyday thing. However,... my install and yours; if you do own my product. Are designedas simple for an install as possible. Compared to the nock-offs out there of my product. yes I said nock-offs. I'm the only one with the US Patent on the V-Twin Heat Deflectors. However, if you do need to access something under the side panel. There's 3 bosses or prongs that the side cover attaches through rubber grommets in the frame. By just popping loose the bottom boss of the side cover, The bottom of the deflector can be slid out from behind the side cover and swung forward, allowing the deflector to pivot in the area thathas been inserted between theplastic cable channel and the frame tube. Then you can simply remove your side cover.

I have a set on my Glide and I also have the adjustable back rest. They fit and work well. The reach to the adjustment handle is a little more precise is all.
