Recently rebuilt the engine, rebuilt the transmission, replaced the Baker compensator with an older worn out SE with an extra washer added, new IPB and S&S race. Less than 1k miles on the build...

Two weeks ago i was riding without my ear plugs and tunes turned off and heard a bearing noise. Heard the noise when in gear, coasting, decelerating, and in all gears. When clutch lever was pulled in the noise disappeared, when the clutch was engaged then the noise appeared.

Pulled the primary apart again and diagnosed it to the clutch basket bearing. Had a little play in the basket and a little grit to it. Used a small 3lb drilling hammer a piece of wood, and a few large sockets and punched out the old bearing and installed the replacement bearing. 160ftlb on the comp bolt and red loctite, 80ftlb and blue loctite on the clutch basket nut. New circlip fasteners all around just because.

Clutch basket bearing:
Worn out bearing: Koyo 5207
Replaced with HD OEM 37906 which was stamped:
F.A.G. 3207-BD-XL SLOVAKIA 0045 N035-07

 

So, did that fix the problem??

 

Yup. Wheel bearings are fairly new and the IPB was good when the belt was replaced a week before the bearing noise was noticed. Thought it was a wheel bearing until i pulled the clutch in, helped to trace the culprit down.
