I put over 20K on my Vstar and tires lasted about 6-7K. I went thru 3 sets. The stock tires on my Harley went 18k with 1-2k left before the wear indicators. I replaced mine with Dunlop American Elite 3's. If I can get another 18K I will be ecstatic.

My guess is touring frame wobble. It may be exaggerated a bit by the worn front tire but I expect you will feel this "hunting", I would call it, shortly after replacing the front tire. This is not the tank slap death wobble but a feeling of searching for exactly the right steering input to go smoothly around a bend in the road. There are many rear swing arm stabilizers on the market and I suspect it won't be long before you are searching for recommendations. You have the improved frame but there have still been several complaints about a feeling of uncertain control in fast, sweeping turns even with that frame. I hope the tire does it for you but if not, you may need to check swing arm bearings and/or look into a stabilizer link.
