Change the seat, get better shocks, get a bigger front tire, add a tourpak, add passenger foot boards, add saddlebag guards, get a bigger windshield, add running lights if you want to travel as comfortable as a Ultra. Or just buy a Ultra or Limited with a detachable tourpak.

Street Glides have Harleys shortest, crapiest shocks.
Upgrade the seat and shocks and your significant other will be good to go.

Done a couple cross country trips with the wife on my SGS. Swap out to a Sundowner Seat and add a tourpak. Yeah a tourpak isn't cheap but stripping down a Ultra isn't cheap either.

Oh yea, i remembered why I opted for the SGS...didn't want the water cooled Ultra...happy with my decission....but I did change the front tire to a 180 and installed the 944 13" Progressive shocks. My SGS rides like a dream !!!!

Now I really confused!!! Sounds like either decision will result in extra money no matter what. I'm curious as to why you were happy you did'nt go with liquid cooled ?

This is my 2009 Street Glide that I put 2014 style Tour-Pak and Saddlebags on. I also have Ohlins shocks and a custom C&C touring seat with an AirHawk. We made a 3050 mile trip last June with absolutely no complaints. Good luck in your venture, happy wife happy life. Ride safe.

I did the ultra strip down and I am happy. I didn't really spend any money taking things off. I made my tag bracket, Tucked wires under seat. I don't listen to am fm so I didn't need to relocate antennas which is easy to do. I don't use intercom. easy peasy took about a day to get it done.

If they never know how good it can be, they never miss it! My wife started out on the back of a Sportster, the SG seems like a dream to her. I'd say a stripped down Ultra is your move.
