I change engine oil around three times a year, which comes out to around 3000 to 3500 miles. Winter oil gets changed in the spring around 2500 or so.
Primary every 5000 to 7000.
Transmission every 10,000 or so.
...
My manual calls for oil changes at 5000 or sooner under more extreme conditions.
Primary calls for 10,000 miles
Transmission calls for 20,000 miles

I change all 3 every 5K. I agree that the primary and tranny don't need to be changed that often but for the cost of a couple quarts of oil and a few minutes extra work it gives me the opportunity to inspect the drain plugs for any abnormal metal wear. I also change all three at the end of the riding season so it doesn't sit over the winter with dirty oil.

I change my engine oil, which is a synthetic, every 3000 miles. Primary oil every 5000 miles and Transmission oil every 7500 miles. I also change all three holes just before winter storage no matter the mileage, so she has clean fluids while sitting through the winter months and is ready to go in the spring.

I change my oil and primary every 3,000 to 3,500 miles. Transmission every other change so 6,000 to 7,000 on that.
Air cooled engines run hot. Heat is an oil killer. Synthetics handle extreme heat better than conventional oils. I feel best changing it at the above intervals.
I feel like the primary needs 3k because as the clutch plates wear those particles get suspended in the primary fluid. I feel better flushing it out.
I will admit it is overkill with modern oils but I am old and set in my ways. I have always changed oils in vehicles using the above intervals and have never had a failure due to lubrication issues.
My wife bought a new car this spring. Recommended oil change intervals are 10,000 miles in regular service, 5,000 in severe duty.
I am trying to make myself stretch the changes to 5k miles and it is hard to make myself stretch the changes that far.
