Default Spark plug wires

Hey everybody, first let me apologize if this seems to be an ignorant question...and second let me say I’m fairly knowledgeable around a toolbox. Now, with that said, how the h*#ll do you replace the plug wires on a ‘16 Street Glide Special?!? It looks as though the tank has to be removed to remove and replace the front plug wire. Is that truly the case, or am I just not looking at it from the right angle!? Any help would be great!

I remember the wires on my 2009 FLHX were pretty hard to reach too...especially the front. Ended up unhinging the tank and supporting up w/block of wood. This gave me enough clearance to run wires. Just be cautious w/the fuel line (disconnect it)...

Guessing '16's are similar fate w/the plug wire clearance...??

I'm curious why plug wires should need to be replaced on a 16 bike?
Plug wires shouldn't be bad yet.
And, if they are, why you wouldn't you have it done under warranty?

Or is this an upgrade? I've not heard or seen much in the way of need to upgrade plug wires.

My front was replaced at 5K service because of chaffing under warranty you never know until it's giving a problem , at least the the tech checked

I don’t have any issues with rubbing and chafing that I’m aware of, but with roughly 7k miles I wanted to change the plugs and then upgrade the wires to Screaming Eagle Phat red wires to match the red pinstripe on the bike (performance as well as aesthetics!)

The tank is real easy to yank as long as the tank is not full. ( Heavy) The fuel line is a quick connect and then four bolts. It lifts right off.

You won't gain a whit of noticeable performance.

^^^^^ This. I changed a set on my old Road King once because I thought it would be an upgrade. All it did was downgrade my wallet.

And don't forget you have 4 on the new bike.

But.... people have done more work and spent a lot more money on aesthetics.... plus, if you see any possible chafing spots, you can add some chafe protection...

It's really not hard to remove the tank... pretty easy actually... of course, best to do it before fueling up...
