Default 259E cams for twin cam

I own a 2016 FLTRXS. I currently have 211 cams in it and I am thinking of swapping them out and putting in 259E cams. I understand the valve springs need to be upgraded and I am upgrading the cam plate and oil pump also. I am starting to hear a lot about "go with the 255 cams or the 585 cams. I would like some feedback on the 259E cams and what thoughts are on them.

welcome.
put them in 8-9 yrs ago. got mcr heads with bigger springs already installed. Have put 50k miles on them. dont remember alot but used the stock plate and oil pump so far so good. more valve noise mostly in higher rpm and can suck the gas down to 28 mpg if you ride up in rpm on highway so long trips fine at 72mph,can get 43mpg if easy on it.

had good lifters and put the new hd ones in thinking that would be a good idea, took them right out bad move, need better lifters>$ imo or the old harley ones<$.

had to grind a little out of the rocker boxes for bigger lift/springs, ez to do.

most the time i like them ,trade off. get a spot on tune.se spring on the clutch. Extra care for starting system in the long run. passed trucks well and fun to ride, more lopey sound, more winding up rpm...

ran them for a season took them out, spring required too heavy, bitch on lifters, go with aftermarket

andrews
woods
gmr

etc

ask a builder most pass on hd cams

your 211s are better than 259s

The 259E cams produce HP. Small shops can't get a discount on HD parts so they don't like them. All the high lift cams require better springs.

Wanting to upgrade cams in my 2000 Electra glide classic. I am wanting to keep push rods and everything stock for now considering I’m building on a budget haha

Is it a carb or fuel injected? If EFI, you will have to tune it and carb will require rejet. The tuner will cost some cash. What’s your riding style? If you need torque for two up or hauling luggage, it will make a difference on cam choice. Can get a set of SE 204s cheap and you can reuse stock rods.

The SE 211 cams are decent cams with a compression boost. I tried them out and they worked well but not exactly what I wanted. The stock Rushmore cams are very similar to the 255 cams so I wouldn't go that route. Can't speak to the 585 cams. It all depends on how you ride and where you want the boost. Lots of good bolt in cams out there.

If you have 10.5:1 compression and 103 C. I. or bigger the SE 259e cams are top notch, but if you are running 88" or 95" a SE 254 e cam would better suite you, it is an up graded SE 255 according to the SE pro racing catalogs.

it’s an 88” not sure of compression and I was told you can take cams from 96” to put in an 88” . And I want something to give more power I hit 70 at 2500 ish rpm so I’d like to get there quick and always ride two up mostly with the trunk on back...

Cams from a 96 are different and will not work in an 88. You would need conversion cams. You can get the same grind, just not able to drop cams from a 96 in.
