New tires for 2005 Road King
#5
Sure, I could do an internet search, I know how to do that. But, I want to know if there is anything I need to watch out for buying on the net. Who do I get to install them would be another question.
The Harley dealer wants $270 for the Dunlop to replace the rear, seems like robbery.

You can mail order tires much cheaper from hundreds of places, even Amazon.
the rub can be the mounting. Many Harley dealers will refuse to mount tires you bring in. Independent shops are more willing. So ask before you mail order tires.
frequently two different mounting prices, having to do with you bringing the wheels in, or you bringing the bike in and having them take the wheels off and on the bike. The latter costs more. So, you comfortable taking the wheels off yourself?
last, mounting the tires yourself. Be it with irons, or your own tire machine. I can and do mount my own bike tires, but Harley tires are not fun or easy to do in my experience.
lastly, spoke wheels? Add in the cost of tubes and the rim strap.

OMG.... NEVER buy tires from HD!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Anywhere on the internet will save you money. If you don't know an Indy find one. No, find several and get prices for installation. The guy I have been using for years charges $45 per tire on the bike. Even lets me order and have shipped to his shop in spite of the fact that he carries tires. And I know other guys that are cheaper but this guy has become a good friend.
