A 96"er with some miles on it would be half that.

Am I attached? Yeah, I find that I am. This is a bike that I've ridden around the whole country on (literally -- my daughter and I did a 48/10 together on this bike and a 50CC last spring).
There's your answer - rebuild it! To your own specs!

I'd tear it down with the mindset of rebuilding, once inside you can make the final decision. Hopefully things aren't too bad and you can make her better and stronger...

Voted rebuild but really that's if doing most the work yourself like tear down and assembly.

I've actually given this question some thought for my own bike in case it ever blows up, which I doubt it will again. It's an 07 ultra classic that spun the crank before I got it and was rebuilt with a welded and trued crank under esp.
Anyway, should it ever need it I'll be putting in a 103 take off if I can find one or low milage used if not. I've ridden limiteds with them stock, stage 1 and 2 and for me, it's a more than than enough.

But as others have said the option you choose will be a personal choice depending on what the bike means to you, budget, ability and, most importantly, what you want the bike to be and do for you.

I voted for a S&S engine because
I've always wanted a
big engine. But I agree if you have the skills rebuild it. I doubt I'd buy a used engine, pig in a poke kinda thing.

I have thought of this and would go all in on a rebuild with trued and welded crank and gear drive cams just for peace of mind.

I voted to rebuild, but it depends on the bike. If it's newer, I'd probably go with a new motor. If it's an older bike, I'd tear it apart myself, figuring I have little to lose but some time. Good luck whatever you choose.

Seriously? You can't make up your own mind, and need to put a vote out to strangers? Kick the idea around a little, sure...but a vote?

Weak...

You realize the poll is non-binding, right? It's just for fun. There's no need to be unkind.

Not being unkind...I just recall a day when men...especially men riding Harleys...made up their own minds!!! As I say, I think it's great to kick the idea around a little, but ultimately, you gotta man up and decide!!!

But if you consider that 'unkind'...so be it... But here's my input... do the most you can do with the bucks you got!!! And don't forget that any bux you put into your project beyond just getting it basically moving down the road well is money you'll never get out of it...if that's important to you.

There ya have it...
