I don't think the matching #s make a lot of difference on a bike. now if it is a special edition 64 corvette with 454 from the factory...... I would rather have the s&s upgraded motor if I was buying your bike in the future.
The S&S is the way to go.
A little more cash but it’s built ready to bolt in with a company new warranty. And with all the good bits you was going to buy and put in , In the first place.
I’d ya going with a crate , I’d be looking at what’s the diff in what ya would like in a custom build and cost.

Call S&S have the box delivered and have a blast this winter getting the old girl ready for spring ( that’ll keep ya off the streets 🙃

Step 1) Carefully assess your skills and limitations.

Step 2) While cogitating on Step 1, working on fixing the toilet that has been running for months.

Step 3) Sleep on it.

Step 4) Check on toilet. It is not leaking! Sweet!

Step 5) Use and flush toilet.

Step 6) Mop bathroom floor.

Step 7) Schedule engine install at Legends Motorcycle Emporium.

Default More reason for S&S

My neighbor is an engineer for Harley. He said S&S pieces are made to a higher standard that Harley simply cannot economically match. They are just better quality in most instances. FWIW my S&S crank has about 20k on it and is doing fine, although the stock cases are also.

The toilet is now fixed (pats self on back) and the work at Legends is underway. I get more anxious each day and with that anticipation comes diminishing tolerance for the conversation of the humans around me.

Why do they keep talking about subjects other than the fact that I am getting a new engine??!!!
