S&S 124LC it is.

Now for the myriad other questions: What exhaust, what tuner, and what oil!
I like your choice but I went with the S&S 124 HC. When I did mine 9 months ago I spoke with a lot of people including S&S. I ride approx. 20,000 a year including a yearly across country trip which I made this year. I've never had an issue with the motor, bad gas or lack of power. I was told you give up a lot of performance going with the LC over the HC and that's one of the main reasons to go with the 124 in the first place. For a tuner I went with the TTS, had it dyno tuned and it's awesome. For exhaust I went with the Dragos 2 with the 2.55 baffle for better low end torque. If I were to do it over I wouldn't change a thing.

Default Depends

A few things help the decision. Is the rod end (piston end) OK or is it damaged? if the rod is not damaged and the bottom end is OK and miles are less than 75,000 I would rebuild the top end. My choice from previous experience is Head Quarters. A Canadian company but they have some good stuff. Nice head work and cams. I would suggest you be realistic and look at some of the low compression options they have. I used one of their kits on a 99 Ultraglide and the power from idle to 4000 RPM was really nice to ride. Power was there "Right Now" Friend had a Road King with the Harley Shop 115 HP mods and he liked my bike better. Makes power where you ride it. Got about 44 MPG too. Good luck!

Default Suprer Trapp

For exhaust systems there are so many. I ride and tour a lot and like quiet. Super Trapp makes a great product and is adjustable based on how many discs you put in. the more discs the less restriction. Very high quality chrome as well.

List price is $6,262.

Your local S&S authorized dealer can do better than the list price, but I can't say whether they will or not. I found a dealer online that was well below the list price. Delivery time (to my door in Utah) was just under two weeks. Not bad considering I placed my order on a Friday afternoon -- after S&S had already shipped for the day.

There are other costs -- gaskets, seals, throttle body, air cleaner. I will be around $7,000 when all is said and done (with upgraded exhaust yet to come when the decision is made)
