Default Oil tank (can) and related questions, regarding Road Kings. (Classic)

The RK Classic is on my short list of bikes. (A new one next spring. The old Shovel will be around for the last year, in it's current state.)

Anyway, I'm not liking the plastic covers over the oil tank too much.

Are there aftermarket tanks, maybe chrome or powdercoated for an RK Classic? If not, how hard is the tank to get out, and be chromed? Is it a decent looking tank *In the Raw*? I know the Shovel (An FLTC) has the covers as well, but the tank is not the best looking thing around. It may even look gawdy chromed.

I doubt it, but I'll ask just in case... Would taking the covers off hurt in any way? I'm guessing it would allow more air for slight cooling as well.

Has anyone done this on their scoots? Pics? Or seen it on a bike? Pics?

TIA.

Think you have your bikes mixed up here, the RK classic has the tank under the trans.

Color me stupid.

So, what is that behind the motor behind the covers? Like the old Shovels are?

Is that just open space, or electronics?

There's a number of things like the ECM, alarm, TSSM/TSM, fuse panel and other goodies but you were right on the older bikes that the oil tank was behind the right side sitting on the bike, just not on the newer ones.

Thanks. Never really looked close at them to see that. Guess they have to stay put.

The good news is there are some aftermarket covers, 1 from hoppe Ind actually has bottle holders molded in http://www.hoppeindustries.com/ and I have seen others that smooth the look up some.
