Default FNG FLHX question...

Hey HDF,

So, I've been a Softail guy for a long time, never really rode a touring, been on a dyna or 2, but I traded in my Softail on a 07 FLHX, love the bike, wish I'd gone touring sooner, but yeah, this thing shakes, like...A LOT. Mostly at idle, once I take off it smooths out and all is well, once I slow down (~5-10 mph) and stop, It shakes, like my damn teeth are going to fall out. I understand these aren't counterbalanced and all mounted differently, and expected an increase in vibration, but this just seems nuts, lol.

Thanks for the opinions!

My opinion? Sell that rubber mount and go back to a B engined Harley. There's a possibility that a motor mount or fairing mount is at fault, but more likely it's all about you. Every Glide I've ridden does this...but BEFORE I bought it, I was aware of it, and it was ok with me.

We're I you, I'd do two things. Either ride a few more touring bikes and determine if yours is normal or if there's really a problem or have a knowledgeable pal or mechanic do the same thing by riding yours.

The other thing I suggest is...idle less and haul *** more!

Check the front motor mount. If it's good, just enjoy that shake!

Edited:

Went and actually took it apart, the upper portion of the mount seems pretty badly wollerd out. I'm guessing that's my problem. Imgur link with red outline of the upper hole, the bottom is showing some slight weather cracking but nothing SUPER bad.

Cool at least you found something. I would entertain the idea replace all rubber motor mounts.

with good rubber mounts you really do not feel much of any vibration. My '14 engine shakes ( as normal) but not transmitted to my seat really at all. good luck.

Definitely replace the motor mounts if they're looking worn out. Also, going to the poly bushings for the risers makes a big difference with not transferring that shake up through your arms.

Softail? "B" engine?? Yuck! Welcome to a REAL Harley Davidson. They "dance" when they idle. Just ride it!

Yea, I'd rather have mine shake AT idle and smooth out when running down the road. I hate the "B" motor vibrations get worse as the rpm's increase
