Default Record for the dealer

A tech at the dealership said they just got an 03 touring bike with 160K on it. The owner finally brought it in. Instead of trading the owner wants a new motor.

I have heard on this forum of many with up to 129K without major work. But making it to 160K is something.

I have to think that he replaced the tensioner shoes. Is that major? Hard to say, some consider those wear items like brake shoes.

I didn't have to change my motor at 92000 but it was such a good deal girl $1500 end cost I couldn't pass it up. I hope to have it until, well I don't know 200000 miles maybe? We shall see.

I sold my '80 FXS with 80K miles... and that was a shovel head. My Heritage EVO was at 95K when I sold it...

Both were still running like a top, I know they went many more miles for their new owners...

It's all about the maintenance.....

What maintenance items / actions do you attribute to the long life of your engines?

I know a rider with a Sportster with over 200K, before he changed the engine. He is a member here and might check in, but he might be busy riding.
