Detachable Backrest and Luggage Rack

Detachable Backrest and Luggage Rack
I have just installed a detachable backrest and luggage rack on my 05 road king classic, the question I have is do I need to be concerned about some body stealing them? I have see HD sells locks for detachables but do these really work? Thanks for you input.

RE: Detachable Backrest and Luggage Rack
Guess that depends on where you take your bike. Had that setup on my 03 RKC and I never saw the reason for the extra expense of the locks and the potential for additional damage - if somebody really wants the backrest/luggage rack those locks aren't much of a deterrent.
Although it'd prolly be easier/quicker to steal the whole bike.
I put almost 40,000 miles in 3 /12 years.all around the country and I didn't worryabout it... but then again I stayed away from most major bike rally's (where the lowlife thieves really seem to gravitate) or I didn't wander far from my bike when I did hit "those kinds" of places.
If it gives you piece of mind, that's up to you... but I always slept on the ground floor of motels and kept the curtain open too! (I bought the pager for the Ultra).

RE: Detachable Backrest and Luggage Rack
I bought the lock. With back rest, pad, rack and aluminum piece on the rest(about 500 in the whole setup). It seems it would work really well. I have the alarm, I believe it would be worthless for someone stealing a windshield or luggage rack without locks. I can take mine off without the lock and never rock the bike. At least they would have to break something to steal from me.
