This is easy. I bought the Streetglide instead of the Road King because I wanted the music. The end.

Harley dealers will sometimes rent bikes, but if not:

There is a Dallas location.

Once you roll with music you won't want to roll without it. Do fairings suck? Sure they aren't as cool looking but most people that ride a lot and live it eventually end up in the street glide or another with faring. That's the reason they sell so many more. You're probably going to get one eventually, so just get it now. Thank me later.

Just for the record, that is not unanimous.,
With all the wind noise, I find I can't appreciate the music... it just ends up being noise on top of noise. I have tried it several times and always turn it off after a few minutes. To be fair, even though I love to listen to music in my car (with he windows rolled up) I knew I would not like it on the bike for that (noise) reason. The radio did not detract from the appeal of the bike (I wanted all of the other 'Special package' options and the package was still attractive).

I tried both and the sg just fit me. I even like the stock bars, comfy! lol. One of them has to feel better, no? Enjoy!

Of course it's never unanimous, so to each his own. However, if you were having issues with wind noise disturbing the clarity of the music it sounds like you don't have a touring height shield. 8" shield or so takes care of that. 80mph no worries.

I'm considering getting a Road King for my next bike, only because i want something 'simpler' than my street glide. (everything involving my bikes front end is a pain due to the rats nest of wiring jammed inside the fairing

I think tunes are probably the tipping point, if you want factory tunes then it's a Glide.

If you want to enjoy a Harley touring bike in it's purest, most basic form, it's a Road King. I'm sure if I had tunes I'd like them, but I really enjoy just riding around, both with and without a windscreen. I don't have enough free time to do week long rides, but the factory windscreen provides plenty of protection at 80+ mph.
