I agree, that's a good looking scoot. Here's mine, you can see it would not look right with "new" rims.

I have heard that those with the tubeless laced wheels still put tubes in them.

The worst thing about laced wheels is preventing rust on the inside of the rim... it becomes sharp enough that it can cut the tube... even with the rim protector band in place. It is a PITA to seal each spoke on the inside of the rim with something that sticks to the chrome and then you can't adjust the spoke tension.

In general rusting through the rim requires A LOT of neglect.

Simple washing prevents rust. Problem with some riders is they only wash the front wheel because they don't want to take the time to remove the bags.

But I have experienced a flat from a rusted through rim on my evo softail. It was a very small hole but enough to tear the tube. When I took the wheel to an indy to lace a new wheel, he said that the most common cause of rusted through rims is dogs.

Yep - been looking on Chopper Exchange, Cycle Trader and Craig's List. There's a local shop I gotta check too - Cycle Exchange.

Still lots of great info getting posted here - and some really good photos of great looking bikes.

Thanks for indulging this Cruiser Dude.....

RE: 103

The 103 was optional for 2011 RK. I think it became standard in 2012.

Not to be confused with "profile laced" wheels that should never install tubes!

Im not saying it looks bad, I just think the mag style rims detract from the "old school" look.
