Police Road King Help

Police bikes are like police cars, they usually have fewer options, toys, bells, and whistles. Less stuff = less $$$.
If you can find a very low mileage one, or one that was never entered into actual police duty, they can be a great buy. All of the PD's around here have them maintained at the dealership, so there is usually a solid maintenance history and it's done by the book.

I have a 2012 Road King too. Beautiful bike and has been problem free for the three years I have owned it. Just be sure that when all the police radios and electronics were removed, that they weren't just cut out but removed properly and the tires have been replaced for standard street tires and not the police run flats. The police tires are not rated for carrying a passenger. Mine was a lease program bike from a small town in Massachusetts and maintained by the dealership...very low miles and a real steal for the price I paid.

Police Bike
I like mine but there are downsides you have to weigh. The hockey puck saddlebags don't stay closed on the highway. You have to lock them to be sure they do not open. The way they mount the license plate means when you take off the seat and air bag system you will have to find a new way to do that also. Lastly if you ever have cruise control installed you will lose the police orange horn button which I really liked.
Now the upside is you have a Road King for a couple grand less. The hockey pucks can be dressed up and makes your bike stand apart. And if you do not add cruise control, you can buy a police amp and siren and it's plug and play and it is LOUD. The amp can be wired to only sound off as a horn to keep you legal.

I have been looking for a good used RK and noticed the same deals on the Police bikes Being somewhat gullible I took a chance and threw some bids in on ebay. It appears I am now tbe owner of a 2014 RK, though it's not delivered yet.
The one I got does have some scratches, appears she probably has seen a few rodeos, which is fine for me as that is what I plan to use it for. This one also still has the lights and sirens on it though they did take the radio and radar off of it.
I am wondering about how I will like the police seat, for the guys that have picked up these bikes, did you end up changing that out?

The police seat is awesome! The air bladder makes for the best ride. But I took mine off like 99% do only because you can't take a passenger along. The police seat is only for riding solo.

I've owned 3 different cop bikes over the years and have been happy with each. Mechanically, they are better in several ways, heavy duty charging system, side stand safety switch etc. Depending on the police department, they could be upgraded in different ways from the factory for the larger departments across the country. Amenities wise, they are lacking (no radios on the electraglides, switches are different, other differences). Gives you a great platform to customize to what you want.
