Does anyone else dislike the look of the "Cow Bell" horn?
Many may say: "Leave it be! ...Its the classic look of a Harley"

Just wanted to share my personal modification to this area and replaced my horn.

I used a "Sporty/Nightster" horn that mounts in the front... (for now).

Currently I don't like the high beep, beep of the sporty horn ...but I had it laying around and will upgrade to a louder/deeper tone horn in the future.

The Mod:
I fabricated a "filler piece" and welded it to the mounting bracket. Then I got it painted and added an "emblem of my choice" to dress it up.

Again, some may not like it... some will.

Just wanted to share my modification to anyone interested.

You know this is coming. What else will you use to provide the jingle-jangle at Christmas while you ride?

PS - it looks cool but I'd prefer a more open look. I have always wanted to look under the hood of vehicles, whether muscle cars, modern cars or bikes.

 

As long as your mod doesn't negatively affect airflow to the rear cylinder, and you like it, all is well!

​​​​​​​Also, you can get a louder stock type horn out of the P&A catalog...looks like the stock horn, significantly louder.

 

My last 2 bikes I actually did the same mod with no issues. Should be fine and already have around 4K on it since I did it last year.

I'll definitely check out the HD P&A catalog.... I just recently saw a mini "air horn" for bikes that I may install in the RH side compartment... keep you guys posted on that in the future.

I'm eventually going to install an air horn, more than likely mounted to the down tubes on the frame. But I agree, the more airflow the better. I wouldn't block that.

 

I just take the horn and bracket off. I've done it on all 3 of the Harleys I've had.

So you eliminated your horn altogether? Do you have a yearly state inspection?

 

I have to say that with both bikes the look is greatly improved without the horn! I never realized how much is took away from and blocked the beautiful looks of the engine!
