Default Black D&D Fatcat exhaust issues

So in march of 2016 I purchased a Fatcat exhaust from D&D in their black finish. After a few months I started noticing some weird marks on the pipe. At first I thought it was drops of oil from the breather bolts. But I kept getting more of them and they never went away. Then I started getting them in places where oil could never get to. A month or so later rust broke out from one of the spots. Upon closer inspection I realized all the spots were rust spots under the finish.

I called D&D and they essentially said too bad, pipes are only warranted for a year.

Is this common with the black finish, or am I just unlucky?

You have to obsessively clean the black ceramic pipes from day one in order to keep them new and spot free

That's a shame. These pipes weren't cheap.

Sorry for this to happen, especially after dropping lots of coin on them....
Thanks for posting your concerns, and their response.
I'll be taking these of my "consideration list".....

Since I just received black ceramic exhaust pipes, how would one clean them correctly? Any special products/recommendations....

The response from D&D surprises me. Did they say anything about you not caring for them properly or anything along those lines?

Sure. I and dandd website suggest to use harley cleaner polish. I usually wipe w damp cloth once pipe is cold then follow w the polish. Only when it gets something on it or after rain. If no bugs or road grime I might clean it every handful of rides just for maintenance. Other products may work well too.
