Any more, dealers don't want work on Bikes 10 years old or older, let alone stock parts for them.

That's somewhat true. In the normal course of business, they don't want to do the older bikes, HOWEVER, if the service department is slow and the techs need work, they will take it......

Before I retired, I was a service advisor in the body shop of a Honda dealership. One of the things we were constantly fighting was being asked to do complete paint jobs. In a fast passed late model collision repair shop, a complete paint really bogs the system down, so I would do everything I could to make sure the customer didn't want US to do their complete paint. When it was slow, COME OOOOONNNNN DOWN, we would take that complete in a New York minute......

YMMV

I reckon every industry has a version of this rule. In building design, it is 90/10. You spend 90% of your time doing the last 10% of a project.

The OP is correct. The dealers are not stocking even common parts as much. That's been my experience as well (I have an 2008). I believe that's a sign of tightening margins and internet competition. A lot of us are buying on line. The selling of replacement parts and service was a huge business. And with modern inventory analysis and fast shipping it just makes sense for them to not stock as much.

I've actually been impressed with what my local dealer stocks.
You mean 20% of the 80% needed don't you
Supply and demand are what's slowing things down...
More supply of new and lesser demand.
