Default Narrow Drive Belt

I just noticed that the drive belt on my new FLHTC is narrower than the belt on my FXRS. Whut up wit dat?

I assume it has to do with the wider rear tire but are the narrower belts just as strong as the wide ones or are they the same belt just shaved down? It seems funny HD would increase the engine displacement and torque on the new bikesand then skinny-up the drive belt.

The HD rep I talked to said the narrower belts are actually stronger then the old wide ones.
