Default Clutch question

My 05 Standard seems to "clunk" when downshifting, especially from 2nd to first gears. Is this a clutch adjustment or clutch cable adjustment? I have a manual so can do the work myself. Thanks in advance.

Sounds like a Harley to me. You could check the clutch adjustment as described in your manuel or there is a good link in the DYI section on clutch adjustment the easy way. I switched to Redline Shockproof heavy in the tranny, and it helped a bunch.

I run Redline severe Gear synthetic in my 07 SG and it reduced the ckunkquite a bit. I think the rest of the clunk is just "Harley" speak.

That 'clunk' might just be coming from your primary chain also...

Check to see that its properly adjusted. My '02 Ultra 'clunked' all the time when I shifted until I installed a hydraulic chain tensioner. Once it was installed, no more 'clunk'...

Just a thought...[&:]

Raise your RPM's while the clutch is pulled in to match your tranny speed to your engine speed and it will be smoother.
