Hi guys I have a new to me 2000 flhtpi ex police bike that I'm having a little trouble with. When I go from neutral to first gear it wants to pop out and go back into neutral?? All other gears go in and out perfectly fine then when I get into first again it always seems to want to pop on into neutral. Takes a few times but I can get it to stay after a few tries but it's not right and I'd like to fix it properly. Any ideas????? Any help is good help. Thanks in advance

 

If there's no restriction in/on the linkage so you're getting full travel on the shift arm, my first guess would be a bent or worn shifter fork. But that's a guess. Really have to open up the tranny and see what's going on in there. Gotta open it up anyway to fix it, may as well get started.

 

Could it be as simple as a clutch and clutch cable adjustment?? Maybe not allowing it to fully engage into first?

 

Make sure it's going all the way in. Disconnect the shift rod an manually put it in 1st gear. Maybe it's an adjustment that' needed.
