Default Cruise control and check engine light

When I started the bike up to ride it home from work this evening, the check engine light stayed on and couldn't figure out why. (2013 Ultra Limited) Once I got on the highway I went to set the cruise control, but it wouldn't set at desired speed. Is this just coincidence, or, it the non functioning cruise control the reason for the light. I'm still doing some research on how to pull the codes. Any help on this issue would be appreciated.

I don't claim to know what the cause of your check engine light is...

That said, it wouldn't surprise me if the cruise control is locked out by an active check engine light situation.

All the best,

Shane

i would recommend you check the fuse for the cruise control module

it might be that simple

It's the other way around.
The check engine light means there is an issue, and you need to check what code is being set.
That also prevents the cruise from working.

Thanks guys. I'm baffled now. I rode it a little after I got home and the cel was off and the cruise control worked. I'm going to pull the codes over the weekend. It's just too damned hot to do it tomorrow ( supposed to be between 105 and 110 tomorrow).

Had that happen to me on a '12 Road King.

Turns out it was a bad cruise switch

Something similar happened to me after I had swapped bars. I pulled the code and it said brake light switch voltage low. Turns out I had swapped a couple of pins in the right harness. Pulling the codes may reveal a part that is slowly failing or shorting out.
