Default Rear Brake Squeal

Had new fluid and brake pads put on my 2010. Have about 400 miles on it since and rear brakes squealing at slow speed. Dealer said take it around the block steady braking. Tried that, although sounded like bad idea, didn't help. He said if it didn't work, bring it in and they'll take them off and look at them. I don't ride any different and old brakes never squealed. Sucks to have to bring it in. They always sound so puzzled like they never heard of it or the dreaded 08 brake squeal problem, when they came out with a kit. Any good ideas without taking brakes off? Think 400 miles is enough break in time?

When I change my brake pads I go out, after they are pumped up real good, get up to about 30 mph and brake hard x3 times. Front and rear. I'll also prior to installation put some Permatex anti-squeal spray on the back side of the pads, that helps the pads to stay with the pistons when pressure is released. One other thing, I'll file a beveled edge on the pad that the disc leads into to prevent the annoying hum that sometimes happens with new pads riding over the vents in the disc.

I might try hard brake, I have heard of that. I would think they would treat back of pads and take other precautions not to have to do it again later.

You should watch YouTube videos on how to properly seat the brake pads. Pretty much no difference between a car and a bike.

Had same problem with my 08 and my 11 and the wife's 2012 Triglide (diff style calipers). I learned awhile ago that the squeal from disc brakes is not the pad squealing but the complete pad vibrating at high frequency (metal to metal squeal ) on the pins. I bought some anti squeal (looks a bit like silicone caulking) and added it to back of brake pads. No more squeal from any of them. Now I do it as a matter of course when doing the pads. You can buy it from auto parts stores or I bought mine on Amazon.

You can also try sanding the pads with eighty grit paper in case they picked up some glazing...the idea of anti-squeal stuff often works too. That will help any vibration that the pads are doing, and has worked well in many such cases.
