So battery weak slow start. Charge kicks over like a champ. Couple hours ride pull into jewel food for dinner. Come out bike won't start. Buddy comes by says let's jump. Hook up cable to car. Weird noice quickly disconnect. Do it again weird noice. Again disconnect. 3rd time buddy says check your politiry mine fine ask him he has reversed. ****! Starts like champ. Get 2 blocks lose tach speedometer throttle response. Drive couple blocks just to get home. Dies guess no fuel pump. Re-jump get home still same problem. Did I fry the battery or something more costly. Hate jumping bike with car this is why. Have an 08 ultra just ordered battery this morning before ride.

God bless those that gave all so we can ride free.

I think you have a bad cell in the battery.

Jumping from a car battery isn't a problem as long as the car isn't running. The car should be turned off to keep from getting higher voltage from the car alternator which maybe more than than the 14.4 our bikes are regulated at.

All batteries are 12.8 volt fully charged, so jumping from a car battery or bike battery shouldn't be a problem.

I think most likely you will need to replace the battery and all will be well.

Reversed polarity could very well have fried something, but if you caught it before you had the ignition switch on then you might be ok. I honestly hope you got lucky.

Also some advice for ppl not yet familiar with bikes with computers, never hook up or disconnect a battery (or jumpers) with the ignition on.

Also forgot to add... don't beat yourself up too bad. We all make mistakes and feel like an idiot at times. anyone that claims otherwise, makes more mistakes then the rest and probably, really is an idiot.

plus make sure your battery terminals and grounds are tight, it doesn't take being loose but a bit to cause all sorts of symptoms. Best part is it's a free and simple to check.

Usually with a reverse connection, you see the spark and disconnect it before
any damage can happen. You should be fine with the new battery.

I always double check cables, saying "Red to positive, red to positive" and LOOK. This is BEFORE I hook MY battery up.
Sorry you had the issue, hope all works out.
I still think a lot about old school batteries blowing up. I saw one blow up years ago, and everything was hooked up correctly. When I mess with batteries, I don't play. It is a very serious time, my man. When I get them hooked up, I get the hell away from them as best as I can, and this goes for those small jump units too - hook it up, and get the hell out of the way. There is no point in standing over one when jumping a battery.
Safety first!

Once started, the duff battery is now a HUGE load on the charging system

this can take out your stator, voltage regulator or both

even if you get the polarity right

System is for maintaining not charging dead batteries, components can overheat and burn out. I have seen this happen when someone runs with a bad battery.
