Map books and atlases, sir! They were good then, and for me, still good today!


To me, a compass in a motor vehicle on the road is an absolutely worthless piece of equipment. Now, if I'm out in the middle of the wilderness without a USFS map, yeah, maybe I need a compass. But in all my life, having done a fair amount of stomping in the mountains, I've never had the need...just position off the sun!


But...that's just me.

WHY??? (Those that made guiding by the stars a joke,,, ) The military navigates with an Astro Inertial system! There is a camera that looks at the stars, and they load a map for the hemisphere they're going to be working in!
