The amp load of the passing lamps is small, especially if you have LED lamps.
You can do it how ever you like.
BTW - where do you think the aftermarket "Harness" gets it's power for the passing lamps?

I have made many modifications to my TriGlide. And one of the rules I try to follow, is to do modifications as add ons...without modifying the factory harness. This may mean I have to run some extra wires, but, then if I ever have to revert, I can do easily...and it's back to stock. FWIW...I would not buy a used bike that someone has cut up the Factory harness.

Just my $.02!

Goes behind the switch panel.

Thanks for the reply, my 2000 RK doesn't really have a switch panel so I'll dig into the wiring diagrams and see if I can figure it out.

With your bike up on a jack, with the front wheel off the ground, you can turn the front end lock to lock and look up under the switch panel, and you *might* be able to get to it. On my 'King, it was just not quite enough, so I went at it from the front. Pulled the headlight, removed the bucket, and the wires are right there for you to behold. Access to the two wires is all you need, some are doing it with just a simple tap.
*Bonus* - For those doing this mod and your touring bike does not have a fender tip light (Like Road Kings), there is an extra 12 volt wire not in use that is there for the fender tip light. I used it on my bike for 12 volt power to my Garmin Zumo GPS. While you are inside the nacelle, you might find use for that switched hot wire like I did. FYI.

The bottom line is, connect the yellow wire to the orange/red wire.
No need to over complicate it. No harness necessary. That's all the harness does, anyway.
Be sure to secure the connection well, and ride.

I'm in the process of doing this mod but I don't see the orange/red and yellow wires. I have a 2012 RK.

Look toward the back in the bottom, you'll find it.
Remember the orange red wire comes off the acc switch.
