Default Sissy bar passenger backrest loose.

The passenger backrest on my RK is somewhat loose. The top screw of the three seems to be stripped. I've never seen the inside of one of these and don't know what type of nut is on the inside. I'd like to repair it without removing the upholstery. Has anyone here had to get inside a passenger backrest pad? I'm thinking of possibly using a plastic anchor, but don't want to do anything until I understand how this is made.

I opened up my wife's sissy bar pad today, it's disappointing to say the least. The "pan" is plastic and the portion that holds the captive nuts cracks and causes the nut to turn with the bolt. It's a pain and I'm not yet sure how I will deal with it. Did you open yours up? Did you find a fix?
