I think it has changed a time or two through the years. Always refer to the manual for your bike.

Reading the manual can save you a ton of "oh ****" and "duh" moments.

When you drain the trans it's good to stand the bike straight up so the trans drains completely refilling it doesn't matter checking the level it should be on the side stand

my 98 ultra required the bike to be straight up.its not real easy to hold a 900 pound bike straight up and bend over and pull the tranny dip stick.my 08 ultra requires the bike to be on the jiffy stand, thank you harley.as said always refer to the (operator or service) manual for your bike.

Call me naive but the notion of a vehicle requiring that it be routinely jacked up in order to check fluid levels strikes me as amusing. Amusing or not, it would be rather inconvenient IMHO.

whatever manual says pour it in. thats it. drain it. pour it. forget it. simple. some folks just read to much into this stuff. not a science.

Just drove bike as per manual checked dip stick, showed nothing so I added about 6 more ounces now reads ok while on jiffy stand,BUT manual calls for 20-24 ounces I have close to 28 in now figure it is what it is I'll check it again on next ride

Hey Paco-What bike do you have? My 06 Electra Glide manual says to check the transmission oil with the bike straight up-not on the jiffy stand. Is yours an 06 Road King? If so I can't imagine that it's different from mine. I think you have now overfilled it by checking the level on the jiffy stand. But as others have said-if that's what your manual says then go with it but I'd double check the manual.

Engine oil is checked on the jiffy stand.
